Man charged after 13 animals seized from deplorable conditions in New Stanton apartment

A former New Stanton man is set for a preliminary hearing Wednesday on neglect charges after state police said they seized 13 animals from deplorable conditions at his home.

Mason Timothy Fronius, 25, of Connellsville, is facing 39 misdemeanor animal neglect counts along with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

Troopers were called to New Stanton at 9:30 p.m. Jan. 27 to search for Fronius, who had threatened to shoot the animals and himself, according to court papers.

Animal welfare advocates want harsher penalties for planned abuse

Animal welfare advocates with Salt Lake County Animal Services are calling for harsher criminal penalties for those who intentionally injure animals after a dog was kidnapped last month and lit on fire.

“Dixie’s Law,” named for a 4-year-old red heeler that died days after getting taken by a family member’s ex-boyfriend, would allow for enhanced penalties for premeditated animal abuse cases, said Salt Lake County Animal Services Director Talia Butler.

Carpentersville man charged with animal cruelty in dog stabbing

A Carpentersville man is facing an animal cruelty charge after his family’s dog was found fatally stabbed in a forest preserve near Barrington Hills.

Christopher Castillo, 23, was charged last month with one count of aggravated animal cruelty, authorities said.

Kane County Forest Preserve Police Chief Mike Gilloffo said the charge stems from a March 25 incident.
