Oregon Humane Society helps 7K ‘pandemic pets’ find homes

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The past 12 months will be remembered as some of the most challenging in human history but they also provided a unique opportunity for countless pets in need of forever homes.

Despite being dominated by a crippling pandemic, the past year has been one of the most successful years on record for pet adoptions across the United States. Scores of people found themselves suddenly spending all their time isolated at home and often in desperate need of a companion. Humane Society pet food pantry helps keep people and pets together

The Animal Humane Society of Golden Valley said it has worked with several families forced to surrender their pets because they can no longer afford to care for them. 

“What we’ve learned through the COVID-19 pandemic is, ultimately, the need is so great that we really felt like we wanted to do more,” said Anne Gass, rescue relations manager for the Humane Society. 

In a time where people lean on their pets to provide emotional support, Gass said the Humane Society wanted to do everything it could to help keep people and their pets together.

Farmer’s Gals raise rabbits for family pets


ST. IGNATIUS — The “Made in Montana” sticker designating businesses based in the Big Sky State can usually be found on local pottery, jewelry and, of course, huckleberry-flavored goodies. Savanna Hess and her family have a somewhat livelier take on doing business in Montana.

Hess raises pet rabbits on the family farm in St. Ignatius, and the most recent litter was ready to find homes just in time for Easter.

Hess and her family — mother Heidi and sisters Estee and Brooke — are known as The Farmer’s Gals.

Studio City’s Wagmor Pets welcomes stray dogs rescued from Thailand

STUDIO CITY, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A pet hotel in Studio City has just welcomed seven new dogs all the way from Thailand. They were rescued off the streets, and are being given a new lease on life.

After two days of travel by air, the pups are dog-tired. But life is about to get a whole lot better for them now that they are back on firm ground in Los Angeles.
